Beskrivande text
Naomi Novik's stunning series of novels follow the global adventures of Captain William Laurence and his fighting dragon Temeraire as they are thrown together to fight for Britain during the turbulent time of the Napoleonic Wars. Capt. Laurence's adoption in to the Chinese Imperial family means that he and his Celestial dragon Temeraire are finally free to return home. But before they board ship, they recieve new orders not to sail with the rest of the British party. Instead they must take the shorter overland route to the English Channel, stopping in Istanbul to collect three dragon eggs which the government have purchased at great expense from the Ottoman Empire. But as they prepare for the dangerous crosscontinental flight, they discover that the white dragon, Lien, has left China before them, intent upon revenge. She wants to destroy Temeraire by stripping him of all that he holds dear, and being a celestial dragon, she has the power and intelligence to carry out her terrible threat.

Naomi Novik was born in New York in 1973, a first-generation American, and raised on Polish fairy tales, Baba Yaga, and Tolkien. She studied English Literature at Brown University and Computer Science at Columbia University before leaving to work in the games industry. Over the course of a brief winter sojourn working on a game in Canada, she realized she preferred the writing to the programming, and, on returning to New York, decided to try her hand at novels. Temeraire is her first.

Recensioner
'I took a jaundiced view of dragon books until Novik won me over with her first novel. This book, involving a perilous expedition from China to Turkey, climaxing at the siege of Danzig in 1807, is possibly the most exciting yet. The Times 'In the best tradition of fantasy, historical fiction and nautical novels.' Guardian 'Plenty of intrigue, swordplay, exotic locations, plausible invention. In short a treat.' The Telegraph 'These are beautifully written novels, not only fresh, original and fast-paced, but full of wonderful characters with real heart.' Peter Jackson 'Novik has stirred the passions with a genre-busting historical fantasy of the first order.' Sunday Sport
