We all know that China is becoming an economic powerhouse, India is close on China's heels, Korea is a leader of high tech innovations, and Japan has some of the world's most dominant and influential companies. But what we don't know is how - since the end of World War II - Asia has transformed itself into the rising force of the global economy. Who were the people behind this miraculous transformation? In "The Miracle", "Time" magazine and former "Wall Street Journal" reporter Michael Schuman offers an insightful and engaging historical narrative that presents the dramatic history through the stories of the participants themselves. Michael Schuman has been a business journalist in Asia for more than ten years. He is currently the Asia business correspondent for TIME magazine, based in Hong Kong, and covers the entire continent from India to Japan. He also spent more than six years as a correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, in South Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia. He won an Overseas Press Club award with other WSJ reporters for the newspaper's coverage of the 1997-98 Asian economic crisis. Prior to his experience in Asia, Mr. Schuman was a staff writer at Forbes magazine. He has a Masters degree in international affairs with a specialty in political economy from Columbia University in New York and a Bachelor degree in political science and Asian history from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
