Tim Winton was born in Perth in 1960. He is the author of thirteen books, including novels, non-fiction and books for children. His first novel, An Open Swimmer, won the Australian/Vogel Prize. Cloudstreet won prizes in both Australia and Britain. His most recent novel, The Riders, was shortlisted for the 1995 Booker Prize.
