Teaching Communication

We learn most of our communication skills without consciously working at them. Teaching Communication sets out what those skills are and suggests ways of developing them. The authors are concerned with skills and competences - oral, written, visual, interpersonal, mass media - but stress that functional skills cannot be divorced from the intellectual and conceptual foundations on which they are built. They explore the relationship of theory to practice and explain techniques for teaching specific topics such as non-verbal communication, media technologies, genre and semiology. The main focus is on practical teaching strategies and materials.
