HANSPETER KRIESI is Professor of Comparative Politics at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He has held previous positions at the Universities of Amsterdam and Geneva. His areas of research include Swiss politics, comparative politics, social movement studies, political parties, interest groups, attitude and opinion formation, political campaigns, direct democracy and electoral studies. He has published widely on these topics and recently co-edited (with David Snow and Sarah Soule) The Blackwell Companion to Social Movements. PETER FARAGO is Co-Founder and Partner with Landert Farago Partner, a privately owned and operated social science research institute focussing on policy research and programme evaluation. He has been the director of the Swiss National Science Foundation's Priority Programme Demain la Suisse (1999-2003). MARTIN KOHLI is Professor of Sociology at the European University Institute, Florence. He is a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg and of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and from 1997-1999 was President of the European Sociological Association (ESA). MILAD ZARIN-NEJADAN is Professor of Economics at the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland. He is a regular consultant to the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and OECD. His areas of teaching and research include economic policy, public economics, public finance and taxation.
