Using stitch motifs and colors, knitting techniques and construction details, the socks presented here blend regional knitting traditions with Stephanie's unique design flair. These patterns draw inspiration from signature local textiles, such as Turkish kilim carpets, Japanese sashiko embroidery, Belgian lace, American quilts, and Scottish argyle tartan. They also give a nod to traditional knitting techniques, including Estonian and Latvian braids, Norwegian stranded knitting, and Austrian twisted-stitch designs. At last a sock knitting book I love. These are socks to wear, not hide under your trouser legs. Fabulous designs where often the underside of the sock is as important as the upper. This book is a delight from heel to toe. There's only a couple of patterns I wasn't fond of, the rest I adore. Here's to knitting a pair of socks a fortnight, this book will keep me going all year! Stephanie van der Linden is a knitwear designer based in Frankfurt, Germany. Her designs have appeared on Socken-Kreativ-Liste (a German Yahoo group) and in Twist Collective and Anna Crafts magazines. She is the author of six knitting books in German; this is the first book of her designs to be published in English.
