Blending contemporary designs with classic techniques, this book of 20 women's designs takes the knitter on a journey around the world. Along with the familiar Aran and Fair Isle styles are patterns which take their lead from sources such as Cowichan tradition, Sweding twined knitting and Bohus design, Faroese shawls, Estonian roositud colourwork, Icelandic yoked knitting, Selbu motifs and more. The result is a collection of beautiful, elegant designs that will also help you to develop your skills.-The Knitter Chances are you'll find many projects in this book to tempt you. The yoked sweater on the cover is a case in point. There's plenty for beginners and intermediates to enjoy, including Fair Isle and cable projects. Some of the projects are worked straight from top to bottom, but they're simple patterns that are easy to adapt and shape. Some of the recommended yarns and USA-only, but you'll find that equivalent weights for UK yarns are also given.-Knit Today Reviewing a book is a responsibility not to be taken lightly, so I asked several people including wool shop owners and knitting pattern designers for their thoughts, and the response was as diverse as the patterns in the book. A hip young thing assured me that many of the patterns are very New Style Miss Marple, which I believe is 'in'. My mum selected one cardigan she would knit, whilst a textile designer cooed at almost all of the 22 patterns. You will need to be more than an enthusiastic beginner to knit any of the patterns as most include Fair Isle or Aran techniques. A good stitch guide with diagrams is given at the back. Advice from a knitting shop on wool and needle size choices would be sensible, unless you know American knitting patterns already. I knitted one of the old style shawls, and I do suggest you flick through this book as you may well adore it.-Journal for Weavers Spinners & Dyers
