The book is mainly a directory of Fair Isle designs but it gives an interesting account of some of the history and the different techniques used as well as exploring how to put colours together in your own Fair Isle. How many times have you wanted to re-colour a design but not known where to start or had the confidence to play with colour? Mary Jane takes you through harmonious colour choices and helps you to understand how colours balance each other. For me what really sets this book apart is the directory itself. She is known for her colourful and inventive Fair Isle and colourwork designs featured in Interweave Knits, Twist Collective, Classic Elite Yarns, Alchemy Yarns, St. Denis Magazine and an assortment of books, as well as at her website MaryJaneMucklestone.com Mary Jane has a varied background in art and textiles having earned a BFA in Printmaking from Pratt Institute, studying fashion at Parsons School for Design, and Textiles and Historic Costume at the University of Washington. She was a photostylist for Interweave Knits magazine, has taught handwork to the early grades in a Waldorf School, and also worked for years in the fashion industry in New York City, and the related fields of advertising and interior design.
