    Denne författare, som jag nu läser allt mer utav, lyckas här föra in oss i sydostasiatisk historia på ett icke europeiskt sätt. Här är det 100 år av Burma (Myamnar) som skildras genom att beskriva kejsardömets fall och dess följder, ända till nutiden. Historien om huvudpersonerna sträcker sig till Malysia, till Bengal i Indien, till kampen mot britterna, till vår tid. Romanen är spännande och historiskt kunnig.Personerna och deras öden etsar sig fast.
