Mayergoyz received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Cybernetics of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Kiev, in 1968, where he worked until 1979 as a Senior Scientist. Dr. Mayergoyz is a Fellow of IEEE, a Research Fellow of General Electric Research and Development Center, and a Distinguished Lecturer of the Magnetic Society of IEEE. He has served on the Edison Medal committee of the IEEE Award Board. He is currently an editor of the journal IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, and is a member of the Administrative Committee of the Magnetic Society of IEEE. Dr. Mayergoyz emigrated to the United States from the former Soviet Union in 1980 and has been a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, since 1981. As an educator he has received the George Corcoran Memorial Award for significant contributions to Electrical Engineering Education, the Outstanding Professor Award, and an Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Maryland--where he also received the Distinguished Scholar Teacher Award in 1994. Professor Mayergoyz has published five scientific books and more than 200 journal articles. His research interests are in the areas of power engineering, magnetics, computation electromagnetics, semiconductor devices, superconductivity and applied mathematics.
