    Boken skildrar Kerouacs andliga sökande i 50-talets Kalifornien. Som ett tidsdokument över den generation som senare kom att blomma ut i 60-talets hippies är den intressant, men Kerouacs buddhistiska intresse är alltför anpassat efter hans egna behov och tidigare kristna idévärld för att kunna ge läsaren någon inblick i dharma, och samtidigt som jag som läsare fylls av en hoppfullhet och framtidsvision genom hans beskrivning av sina vänner, så ger mig Kerouacs begynnande alkoholism mig känslo... Jack Kerouac(1922-1969), the central figure of the Beat Generation, was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1922 and died in St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1969. Among his many novels are On the Road, The Dharma Bums, Big Sur, and Visions of Cody.
