YASSIN EL-AYOUTY is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. From 1954 to 1986, he served full time at the United Nations Headquarters in various capacities, including Chief of the Africa division, Department of Political Affairs and Decolonization, and Secretary of the UN council for Namibia. He is a J.D. candidate (January 1994), at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University, New York City. Following his admission to the New York and New Jersey Bars, he expects to be associated with the law firm of Cahn, Wishod, and Lamb of Melville, New York. He has written and/or edited five previous books on Africa.
