I see many possible benefits in this future research for clients and practitioners of transpersonal psychotherapy and also for EMDR therapists and their clients. A must read for therapists, healers, and clients alike who are interested in an insightful integration of transformational healing paradigms. At last, a well-researched, well-written, and fun to read book on the intersection of Transpersonal Psychology, Sacred Wisdom, and EMDR! The reader will be drawn in by this scholarly yet accessible description of the history, tenets, and some practices of shamanism, and how this increasingly popular field can crossfertilize the field of psychology. Although the notion of psychotherapist as healer/spiritual teacher/shaman is not new, cutting edge psychology and psychotherapy today must include this spiritual dimension.--Sheila Krystal, PhD, Licensed Psychologist Dr. Irene R. Siegel offers the beginning therapist a foundational primer into the field of transpersonal psychotherapy. Using shamanic and modern healing methods, she encourages the awareness of divine spiritual interconnectedness that moves into a shared resonance with the client. Insightful exercises and client-based contributions give evidence to the benefits of transpersonal and EMDR psychotherapeutic methods. This is a must read for any student of transpersonal psychology and for therapists entering the field of service for the well-being of others.--Ana Perez-Chisti, PhD, President, Sufi Universal Fraternal Institute Irene Siegel offers an overview of the methods, theories and main proponents of transpersonal psychotherapy, a field that is gaining prominence for its vital assistance to those who seek to safely and full embody spiritual reality. She shows how spiritual awakening can be an outcome of optimal psychological health. Her book is intelligent, well-researched, and beautifully written.--Judith Blackstone, PhD, founder of the realization Process and author of Belonging Here, and The Empathic Ground This is an outstanding book on the transpersonal approach to psychotherapy and takes the method much further than I have seen elsewhere. The author started her work in Peru in 1985, working with Alberto Villoldo. She had shamanic experiences and other nonordinary experiences. Later she studied EMDR, bringing it into alignment with those experiences, to the benefit of both. . . . Strongly recommended.--John Rowan, PhD, FBPS, FBACP, cofounder of the UK Association for Humanistic Psychology Practitioners, author of The Transpersonal
