Hans-Joerg Rheinberger is Director at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. He has published numerous papers and books in molecular biology and the history of science, including a co-edited collection, The Concept of the Gene in Development and Evolution (2000). Jean-Paul Gaudilliere is a senior researcher at the National Institute of Health (INSERM), Paris. His work has addressed many aspects of the history of molecular biology and of the biomedical sciences during the twentieth century. His contemporary research focuses on the history of biological drugs. He is the co-editor of Heredity and Infection: A History of Disease Transmission (2002).
