    Man väntar på att något ska hända. Det går ganska långsamt, miljöer och karaktärer målas fram, det finns ingen skarp intrig. Berättelsen utspelar sig på andra plan än den yttre handlingens, den dövstumme huvudpersonen Singer blir som en projektionsyta för de andra personerna i omgivningen. Hos honom finns nog nyckeln till förståelsen av romanens mer dolda djup. Efter ett hundratal sidor är jag fångad i berättelsen, karaktärer och teman djupnar. Carson McCullers was born in Columbus, Georgia, on February 19, 1917. She died at age fifty in Nyack, New York. She is the author of, among other books, Reflections in a Golden Eye, Clock Without Hands, and The Member of the Wedding.
