[...] The book is packed with useful information ranging from sections on international agreements, campaigning and fund-raising to descriptions of how to age plants and animals. [...] The strong emphasis throughout on integrating conservation with human development is to be welcomed and will do much to enhance the book's appeal overseas, especially in developing countries. [...] this is a very readable, comprehensive text that fills an important niche." Animal Welfare, Nov 2001 "Overall, the book is a very useful handbook for conservationists both in the industrialised countries and especially for those working in developing countries. [...] To conclude, William Sutherland has written a fine and useful book."
