The newly discovered masterpiece from internationally bestselling author Andre Schwarz-Bart. The Last of the Just, Andre Schwarz-Bart's debut masterpiece, won him international acclaim and the Prix Goncourt. Now, four years after his death, Schwarz-Bart's last novel The Morning Star has been rescued by his widow from his papers. The story begins in the aftermath of a nuclear war that has reduced our world to ashes. Luckily, a few found their way to the stars and into immortality. In the year 3000, nostalgic for the past, they return to earth in an effort to reconstruct the lives of the people who lived there. They discover the records of the wandering Jews of Judea, Palestine and Israel and an accounting of a mysterious massacre that had occurred ten centuries earlier. The Morning Star flows between the poetic, the fantastic and the realistic as it weaves the tale of the Jewish people from Abraham to the Holocaust and into the future.

Recensioner i media

Has the inspiration, the strength and the poetic feeling to make it unique. * The Sunday Times * A supreme work of fiction based on a knowledge of centuries of human suffering endured by the Jewish people at the hands of rival religionists... this harrowing story is not without a searingly ironical sense of humour... vividly described. * The Independent * From the most devastating of circumstances, much genius work has been penned. THE MORNING STAR by Andre Schwarz-Bart is no exception...Deeply personal with so many points of overlap with his own life, Schwarz-Bart's final work is nothing short of important and nothing less than astonishing. * The Book Reporter *
