Tom Bottomore was Professor Emeritus at the University of Sussex, where he was Professor of Sociology for seventeen years. He was a president of the British Sociological Association and of the International Sociological Association. He is the author of numerous books, including Between Marginalism and Marxism and Elites and Society. He died in 1992.
