This valuable book is the first to bring together theory and policy with analysis and expertise on practices in key areas of the public realm to explore what religious literacy is, why it is needed and what might be done about it. It makes the case for a public realm which is well equipped to engage with the plurality and pervasiveness of religion and belief, whatever the individuals own stance. It is aimed at academics, policy-makers and practitioners interested in the policy and practice implications of the continuing presence of religion and belief in the public sphere.

Recensioner i media

"A significant contribution to the improvement of conversation about religious literacy by insisting that informed debate be the norm rather than a rarity." Lori G Beaman, University of Ottawa "[This] book is timely, and provides a solid introduction to the field. It should be of interest, not only to scholars and policymakers, but also to anyone concerned about the poverty of current public discourse about religion." British Politics "[This book] will prove an essential resource for scholars and educators interested in the role of religious literacy in the contemporary scene." Sociology of Religion
