Dr Ram Avtar currently working as Research Fellow at United Nations University, Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), Japan. His research focuses on assessing the impact of global climate change and weighing on adaptation and mitigation options to offer scientific solutions. He has been working on various environmental issues related to climate change adaptation and mitigation. Dr. Avtar is recipient of the Green Talent Award-2013 by Federal Ministry of Education, Germany. He received his PhD from the University of Tokyo and explored gaps in existing biomass estimation practices and provided practical and policy relevant solutions to strengthen prevalent practices. Prior to joining United Nations University, Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), Tokyo, Japan, Dr. Avtar worked as Post-Doctoral Researcher with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC). He has completed his Master degrees (Master of Science and Master of Philosophy) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. Dr. Avtar has presented his research in numerous international conferences and extensively published papers in peer-reviewed international journals as well as books. His research interest includes application of remote sensing in forestry and REDD+ related issues and he sees greater potential in space technology to offer sustainable solutions to pressing environmental problems of the world.
