It is a very helpful reference book with a lot to offer anyone interested in these subjects or wanting to strengthen their arguments in debate ... There is plenty of background to current issues, references to leading writers and and thinkers and to the main organisations active in these fields. These are backed up by extensive quotations and good summaries of the relevant law, case studies and points for discussion. Feline Advisory Bureau, Summer 1998. The text will prove to be a valuable contribution to the animal welfare and protection literature and will provide students with a solid introduction to this complex and contentious area. Modern Law Review, May 1998.
