In the years after the Second World War Colin Douglas-Fairhurst turned the modest decorating business founded by his father into a national leader in the field. FWA, as it became known, won contracts to repaint many of Britain's most prominent buildings, from Buckingham Palace to Waterloo Station and from Hammersmith Bridge to the National Gallery. Along the way Colin raised a family, saw the world, owned and drove more than 70 cars and had a great deal of fun amid all the hard work. This is the story of his life, his family and his business.

Övrig information

Colin Douglas-Fairhurst was born in the year his father set up a pioneering painting business, and the smell of paint and the noise of the spraying equipment pervaded his young life. In 1959, after a sojourn working and living in New Zealand and completing two periods of National Service in the Royal New Zealand Artillery and back home in the Royal Air Force, he joined his father's small decorating business. His dedication to his work soon resulted in the firm gaining a series of large public sector contracts including Windsor Castle and later, Buckingham Palace. By the 1970s Colin was controlling a flourishing group of companies in the decorating and building field. Thanks to careful planning, in 2006 he was able to pass the business into good hands and take life a little easier.
