Set in a city torn apart by feuds and gang warfare, Romeo and Juliet is a dazzling combination of passion and hatred, bawdy comedy and high tragedy. Part of the Macmillan Collectors Library; a series of stunning, clothbound, pocket sized classics with gold foiled edges and ribbon markers. These beautiful hardbacks make perfect gifts for book lovers, or wonderful additions to your own collection. This edition features the classic illustrations by Sir John Gilbert, and includes an introduction by Ned Halley. A young man and woman meet by chance and fall instantly in love. But their families are bitter enemies and, in order to be together, the two lovers must be prepared to risk everything. Undoubtedly the greatest love story ever written, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet has spawned a host of imitators on stage and screen and been adapted countless times.

De här böckerna från MacMillans Collector's Library är så vackra, med guldkanter och fantastiska omslagsbilder. De är små till formatet så texten är liten och det är tunna blad. För den som vill samla på klassiker!

Every generation continues to be in his debt. Shakespeares plots, which are brilliantly polyvalent, continue to inspire ceaseless adaptations and spin-offs. His unforgettable phrase-making recurs on the lips of millions who do not realise they are quoting Shakespeare * Guardian *

Övrig information

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, in 1564. The date of his birth is unknown but is celebrated on 23 April the day in 1616 on which he died. Aged eighteen, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. They had three children. Around 1585 he joined an acting troupe on tour in Stratford from London, and thereafter spent much of his life in the capital. By 1595 he had written five of his history plays, six comedies and his first tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. In all, he wrote thirty-seven plays and much poetry, and earned enormous fame in his own lifetime a prelude to his immortality.
