Patrice Juah and Valor I.E Shelton, are a Liberian aunty-nephew writing and learning duo, who wrote, sang, and smiled their way through the toughest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, to stay afloat and cope with loss in their family. Through Why I Smile, they hope to share the benefits of maintaining a positive attitude when faced with challenges, to encourage and uplift children living through difficult situations.

Patrice Juah is a communications professional, writer, and editor. As founder of the Martha Juah Educational Foundation, she champions girls' education and leadership, through the foundation's academic initiative, Sexy Like A Book. An accomplished author, poet, and public speaker, her literary works cover a wide range of themes, including personal life experiences, women's empowerment and humor. A firm believer in the transformative power of education, Juah contributes to the Liberia Literary Society and Village Tales Publishing, as board member and editor, respectively. Shabamukama Osbert was born in the small village of Mbonwa, Ibanda District, Western Uganda. Art has always been a passion, even during his primary and secondary education. Mr. Osbert is a painter, structural designer, and illustrator. He loves art. During his free time, he enjoys photography, traveling, painting, and doing illustrations.
In 2016, he earned his bachelor's degree in industrial and fine art from Makerere University. Mr. Osbert currently lives in Kampala, Uganda.
