If only in a dream…

as always sigal's rhyming style is delightful. this new book is not only entertaining but also carries messages to those children fortunate enough to read them - or have them read to them. this book is joyfully enhanced by the fine illustrations of abira das.

For those who follow Sigal Adler they know that she offers a meaningful commentary about the importance of reading and the use of rhyme to bring the love of reading to play in children who are challenged by reading or discouraged about learning to read. ‘Children with dyslexia, for instance, find it much easier to understand words when they rhyme rather than dissecting them into letters and syllables.’

In this book, UNICORN FOR CHRISTMAS, Princess Lily and the royal family are preparing for Christmas – ‘It was almost Christmas, and the snow began to fall, They were all getting ready, at the grand palace hall. The holiday they wished for had arrived finally, There was glee and joy among the whole family.’ Princess Lily already had everything she could want – dresses, jewels, tiara, a queen for a mother and a king for a dad, handbags and toys – but her Christmas wish is for a Unicorn as a gift. The king orders his court to search for a unicorn, but none was found. The idea of a unicorn costume arises, and a costume unicorn head is placed on various animals, but Lily is not satisfied. She admires what her parents are trying to do and finally resolves that she doesn’t need a gift since she has her loving mother and dad. And that night, Christmas Eve, Lily dreams of a unicorn that sweeps her into the night sky for a ride and returns her home for Christmas! A wish comes true!

This is another wonderful children’s book, beautifully written in magical rhyme and related with terrific illustrations - Very Highly Recommended. Grady Harp, October 19
