He has worked as a freelance writer since 1980, and published a number of articles and books on time diagnosis, cultural and religious philosophy, art theory and psychology. Sloterdijk has been a professor of philosophy and media theory at the Karlsruhe School of Design since 1992. He took charge of the Institute for Cultural Philosophy of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in 1993. Sloterdijk became the director of the Karlsruhe School of Design in 2001 and has also received a number of awards including the Christian-Kellerer Prize for the future of philosophical thought, and he was named a, "Commandeur de lOrdre des Arts et des Lettres," by the Republic of France. He also recently received the 2008 Lessing Prize for criticism.
