Understanding Suicide Terrorism
11 oktober 2005
Pape offers in this extraordinarily well researched and well argued book a definitive account of this terrifying phenomenon. What motivates suicide bombers to take their own lives and simultaneously commit a gruesome atrocity by killing many innocent civilians? Pape explains that suicide bombing has little to to do with religious fundamentalism as is so frequently assumed in the West. Instead, the group which has committed the worst atrocities is Tamil Tigers whose members are secular Hindu individuals. Those who believe that all suicide bombers are deranged religious zealots are advised to acquire this book. Pape argues that the principal motives behind most suicide attacks are political. The goal is almost always to expel a foreign power from the terrorists' homelands. Strongly recommended!
