Bosse Sandström var en av Aftonbladets bästa stilister under sina cirka 30 år som reporter på tidningen. Han var en klassisk allmänreporter, skrev om allt. Och han skrev om mat. Bosse älskar svensk husmanskost. Han känner matens historia och kulturella rötter. Bosse skrev för tjugo år sedan veckokolumner med vinjetten Mat för få i Aftonbladet Senior, en bilaga för den som var 55+. Han berättade den historiska bakgrunden till våra klassiska maträtter och han beskrev hur maten ska tillagas. Bosse anpassade recepten till det lilla köket; till det äldre paret och den som åt sina måltider ensam. Unga singlar hittade också till Bosses artiklar och lärde sig laga svensk husmanskost. I den här boken har Bosse Sandström samlat sina mattexter. De är lika aktuella i dag som då. Bosses gode vän sedan Journalisthögskolan, filmaren Tom Alandh, beskriver deras restaurangbesök i bokens förord: ”Och alltid var det Bosse som var först med att gå igenom matsedeln. Det var han som ställde frågor och som smakade av vinet, och det var han, inte vi, som möttes av servitörens respekt. Självklart ska en sådan man ge ut en bok om mat. Och här är den, Bosse Sandströms tankar om mat och hans recept. Hon har varit illustratör på Sydsvenskan i Malmö och givit ut nio böcker.

The vegetation is primarily deciduous in the northern regions, whereas in South China evergreen trees can also be found: a total of 21 plant communities are described, with data on species composition, dominance, geographical distribution and ecology. A general comparison is provided by synoptic Table 1, which details the frequencies of ca. 1500 species  growing in the Fagus forests; biodiversity and evolution are discussed. The book, which is the fruit of a major international collaboration, presents a synthesis of extended original investigations by the authors and hardly accessible specialist literature.

Den spännande ungdomsromanen Dansa med strutsar av Monica Zak är en fristående fortsättning på den klassiska barnboken Pojken som levde med strutsar. Den bygger på verkliga händelser i Sahara och är en av de mest älskade och lästa böckerna i svenska skolor. I Dansa med strutsar har Hadara, pojken som växte upp i en strutsfamilj, blivit tonåring. Han lever i ett beduinläger, är gift och har en nyfödd son. Men Hadara längtar tillbaka till strutsarna. En dag lämnar han sin familj och ger sig ensam ut i öknen för att leta efter Hogg och Makoo, strutsarna som i tio år var hans föräldrar. Det blir ett dramatiskt sökande, han är nära att dö av törst och värme. Till slut hittar han sin strutsfamilj och får dansa med dem igen. Hadara blir kvar hos strutsarna. Men han tänker ofta på sin fru och sin son hemma i beduinlägret. Han längtar efter dem. Hans unga fru Kharouba kan inte heller glömma. Efter flera års väntan på sin man lastar hon och deras lille son en kamel med mat, dryck och annat de behöver för att klara Saharas heta dagar och kalla nätter. De rider ut i öknen för att försöka hitta sin älskade Hadara. Dansa med strutsar är en dramatisk och gripande bok för alla åldrar.

Journalisten och författaren Barbro Leggat skrev varje vecka i 23 år kåserier i tidningen Allas. Under vinjetten ”Barbros Blandning” kunde man följa hennes humoristiska skildringar ur livet. Läsarna älskade berättelserna och de lärde genom åren väl känna Barbro, hennes föräldrar, systrar, barn, barnbarn och vänner. I boken "Typiskt - sånt händer bara mig" har hon samlat ett urval av kåserierna. När Barbro hastigt avled i ett hjärtstopp i april 2014 hade hon precis avslutat arbetet med boken. Barbro Leggat har arbetat på bland annat Aftonbladet, Expressen och Kvällsposten innan hon började som reporter på tidningen Allas. Ursula Wilby har illustrerat alla Barbros kåserier sedan starten. Hennes underfundiga och humoristiska teckningar har blivit ett med Barbros texter. Ursula har jobbat som illustratör på bland annat Sydsvenskan i Malmö och har gett ut nio böcker.

The Purification of Fagus Sylvatica Var Pendula is emblematic of Paul Etienne Lincoln's inquiry into the origin and production of memory--and our ethereal relationship to that intangible evidence of our consciousness. In this pursuit Lincoln has employed diverse forms and themes, ranging from examination of historical figures to detailing anything from New York City infrastructure to “household” machines that dispense gin-and-tonics (mixed at varying strengths). Comprised of photographs, diagrams and text, The Purification records the series of experiments and performances which detail the afterlife of a specimen of local vegetation. The book begins: “Situated at the perimeter of Weeping Beach Tree Park in Queens, New York, was a small pavilion looking on to a stump of the oldest Weeping Beach in America. In 1847 Samuel Bowne Parsons, a Quaker and a nurseryman, purchased a shoot of Weeping Beach, Fagus sylvatica var pendula, in Belgium while traveling in search of unusual plants. On his return to the United States he planted the shoot at the site of the stump, then part of Parson's Nurseries. Every Weeping Beech in America is descended from this one tree. Regrettably, the stump is all that remains, as shortly after this venerable tree's 150th anniversary in 1997 it died and was cut down. The tree had, however spawned seven progeny, which still grow in a circle around the original beech.” Over the past two decades, Lincoln has committed himself to creating complex installations, recordings and documentation on a wide range of subject matter. The Purification follows Lincoln's investigation of the Weeping Beech as a way of detailing the process of examination and history writing which is ever shifting and defining the world around us.

Ecologists and biogeographers have been intrigued for a long time by the striking similarity of the vegetation and flora of southern temperate zone regions separated by large oceans. These scientists have been particularly interested in the occurrence in these regions of Nothofagus--southern beeches.
