From his earliest memories of living in the small towns of Iredell, North Carolina Tate Barkley's happiest moments came from his Grandmother's house and the big Sunday Dinners she would host as a reward for getting everyone to church. Those were the days when he felt loved and seen before everything changed in a tug of love between families. Then he met Tate senior, the man he would discover was his biological father. He worshipped Tate even though the man was a dreamer who would disappear for months at a time while chasing the elusive sure thing. As young Tate grew, the two men shared a disease that would almost kill one and would be denied by the other. Descended from a matriarchal moonshiner, the two were alcoholics and drinking buddies until the younger had no choice but to become sober. But Tate Barkley had another more shameful secret he was sure would drive his father away forever. This is a southern boy's story of surviving in a good ole boys' world as he fought his way to accept his true self with or without his father's love.

Eeki Elner is Israel's pioneer in leadership training in the business and social world. He was at the pinnacle of his career when four separate doctors told him he had stage four cancer with a prognosis of only six months to live. It was as if God had given him the ultimate test; would he use the techniques he had been teaching others to overcome the greatest challenge of all, to live? Or would he give in to this death sentence without reaching his potential? Six years later, the answer is clear. Eeki Elner, in collaboration with writer and therapist Joshua Adams, created the ten commandments of Self-Leadership to help future leaders overcome self-limiting beliefs. During his battle with cancer, Eeki realized the real key to leadership is first to rise to one's level of self-mastery. "To become influential leaders, we must learn to lead ourselves effectively. We will then serve as an example to others." Be Strong and Have Courage (Joshua, 1:9) is a universal message that God is always with you. Although strongly practical in its takeaways, the book is spiritual in its message of hope. The underlying theme is there is a higher purpose for good leadership.
