Lymph node pathology is a complex and rapidly evolving field that requires integration of morphologic findings with a number of ancillary studies, as well as clinical information, to diagnose neoplastic and non-neoplastic hematopoietic disorders. Lymphomas are currently classified according to the 2016 Revision of the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification, which emphasizes, and for some diagnoses mandates, the integration of clinical information in diagnostic decision making. Successful collaboration and teamwork between pathology and clinical specialties (especially hematology/oncology) are paramount for excellent patient care. In addition to diagnosis, pathology plays a significant role in lymphoma prognostication and therefore contributes to patient’s management and follow-up. Lymph Node Pathology for Clinicians provides a concise overview of different entities in lymph node pathology with the primary audience being clinicians. Not all entities are covered, but, rather, the most common and/or clinically most relevant ones were included. This text is intended as a quick reference for a clinician to become familiar with pathologic aspects of lymphomas and the thought process of a pathologist. Particular consideration is given to relevant diagnostic and prognostic ancillary studies. Organized with an interdisciplinary approach for effective management of lymph node disorders, this text aims to educate our clinical colleagues on the most important aspects of lymph node pathology.

This is the first volume in a new Springer series, Pathology for Clinicians, which aims to assist clinicians in their daily decision making by providing reliable, clearly presented information on current techniques in pathology, their uses and indications, clinical–pathologic correlations, and the significance of pathologic diagnoses. Liver Pathology for Clinicians first discusses key technical aspects of liver biopsy, including the use of special stains and immunohistochemistry. Detailed guidance is provided on both common and uncommon indications for liver biopsy, including repeat or serial biopsies, and on the choice of procedure. The role of liver biopsy in the contexts of transplantation and systemic disease is also clearly explained. Clinical-pathologic correlations are presented with the aid of high-quality illustrations.

This text is constructed to educate clinicians on the general classification and diagnostic approach to soft tissue tumors, such that they feel more empowered to discuss the relevant features of particular cases with their pathology colleagues. Particular consideration is given to diagnostically and prognostically relevant ancillary studies. The first section addresses the basic foundations of soft tissue pathology, including common morphologic patterns, approach to grading, concepts of immunohistochemistry and molecular studies. Following this introductory section, each soft tissue tumor is presented according to its morphologic differentiation. Sections include lipomatous tumors, fibrous lesions, fibrohistiocytic tumors, neural and nerve sheath tumors, and smooth muscle neoplasms. Each entity is presented in a consistent and organized manner, first discussing the clinical presentation and then addressing the gross and microscopic features. Following this, the immunohistochemical and molecular findings are presented The text then briefly discusses prognosis and treatment. Representative photographs of the microscopic appearance will be included in a large format. Soft Tissue Pathology for Clinicians will further patient care by concisely educating the clinician on the relevant aspects of soft tissue diagnostics.
