Was Baume uns uber das Leben erzahlenDie sensationelle Wiederentdeckung der naturwissenschaftlich-philosophischen Betrachtungen von Aya Koda, einer der renommiertesten Stimmen der japanischen Literatur des 20. Jahrhunderts. Aya Koda reflektiert in einer Mischung aus Naturbeschreibung, Essay, Reisebericht und Memoir uber die Rolle, die Baume und Pflanzen in unserem Leben spielen. Sie benennt jeden Essay nach einem Baum und bedient sich dabei zum Beispiel- des Blauregens (Wisteria),- der Scheinzypresse (Hinoki)- der Zeder oder- der KirschbluteKoda erzahlt von ihrer kindlichen Liebe zu Pflanzen und der Rolle, die ihr Vater dabei spielte, der ihr und ihren Geschwistern die Liebe zur Natur vermittelte. Sie beschreibt die sich wandelnde Beziehung der Menschen zur Natur in Japan und ihre Vorliebe fur verschiedene Baume im Laufe der Jahreszeiten. Eine besondere Rolle nimmt die Zeder ein, fur die die Autorin nach Sudjapan reist, um Exemplare dieser Art zu besuchen, deren Alter auf uber 7000 Jahre geschatzt wird. Zudem schildert die Autorin die Schonheit der Kirschbaume in Tokio, dem Ort, an dem sie lebte und den sie so liebte. Die Ubersetzung dieses zeitlosen Klassikers durch Sabrina Wagerle wurde vom Deutschen Ubersetzerfonds pramiert. Das Buch liegt jetzt zum ersten Mal auf Deutsch vor. Koda schreibt uber die japanische Landschaft, Geschichte und Kultur und auch philosophische Themen wie Asthetik, Verlust, Verganglichkeit, Lebenszyklen oder Schonheit. Ihre Stimme hallt uber Generationen hinweg nach und erinnert uns daran, dass Baume uns einen Spiegel vorhalten, und wir erkennen, wer wir sind und was wir hinterlassen mochten. Der Essay-Band wurde durch Perfect Days von Wim Wenders wiederentdeckt und weltweit bekannt. *** Aya Kodas Prosa wirkt auch heute noch bemerkenswert frisch. Ich glaube, das liegt daran, dass sie nie aufgehort hat, scharfsinnig zu beobachten, aufmerksam zuzuhoren und selbststandig zu denken ohne Zweifel die wichtigsten Eigenschaften fur eine Schriftsteller, fur jeden Menschen. Hiromi Kawakami Weise, offen und oft humorvoll Aya Kodas Wurdigung der Baume Japans ist absolut bezaubernd.
