Titanic & Fashion takes you on a captivating journey through time and style, featuring original costumes from the iconic 1997 film Titanic and rarely seen garments from the 1910s. The book explores a revolutionary era in fashion (1908–1918), when corsets were cast off and visionary designers like Coco Chanel and Lucile redefined modern dress. This period of emancipation, technological optimism, and class division echoes many aspects of our world today.Combined with works by contemporary designers such as Iris van Herpen and John Galliano for Margiela, the book creates a compelling dialogue between past and present. From dreamy gowns to bold statements, fashion becomes a vehicle for stories of hope, struggle, and identity. Aboard the Titanic, these worlds collided – from wealthy travellers in haute couture to migrants in traditional dress – all aboard a ship that came to symbolise both progress and peril.Published to accompany an exhibition at Kunstmuseum The Hague, Netherlands, between 27 September 2025 and 25 January 2026.

Dress codes are timeless. This book explores how clothing at the Dutch royal court between 1870 and 1940 expressed not only style, but also status and power. From galas and masquerade balls to mourning attire and daily wear, fashion followed strict rules. With costumes from the collections of Paleis Het Loo, Kunstmuseum Den Haag, and the Royal Collections, you'll see how members of the court set the tone and became taste-makers in wider society. But dress codes are far from a thing of the past. In the second part of the book, you’ll discover how clothing today still connects - and divides - us. Think of football jerseys, gender norms, or popular influencers as today’s trendsetters. The exhibition invites you to reflect on your own wardrobe choices - and what they say about you. Dress Codes shows that fashion is more than beautiful - it tells a powerful story about identity, culture, and influence.

'The little seamstress' is how the renowned Coco Chanel was once disdainfully described by her contemporary Paul Poiret. He targeted her because she was a woman, but in fact he saw her as a major competitor. Times have changed. More fashion houses are now run by women than ever before. A perfect moment, therefore, for an overview that focuses on strong women in fashion. Femmes Fatales tells fashion history from the perspective of female designers. Do they design differently for women than their male counterparts? What influence have they had? What does being a woman mean in terms of their creations? And what is their vision for fashion? This book includes work by Coco Chanel, Jeanne Lanvin, Elsa Schiaparelli, Mary Quant, Vivienne Westwood, Sonia Rykiel, Zandra Rhodes, Miuccia Prada, Maria Grazia Chiuri (Dior), Fong Leng, Sheila de Vries and Iris van Herpen, and many others.Text in Dutch and English.

Fashion experts take a fresh look at more than 40 Dior creations and talk about the creators, wearers, technology, conservation, publicity, and important women for Dior. Christian Dior himself led his fashion House, founded in 1947, for only 10 years, but conquered the world in that short time. The designers who followed in his footsteps, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and now Maria Grazia Chiuri, remained true to his Dior DNA. The New Look, the Dior line, Dior's love of flowers and, of course, the Dior Dream are covered.Maria Grazia Chiuri, the first female chief designer for Dior, is known for her feminism and the stage she offers to female artists. Dutch photographer Viviane Sassen was therefore asked to create a photo series focusing on work by Christian Dior and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Maria Grazia Chiuri considers herself "a curator of ideas". The photo series, in which her work enters into a dialogue with Christian Dior's, shows what this means to her.
