'Rigorous, rationally optimistic and ultimately empowering' OLIVER BURKEMAN'A deeply-considered - and funny - treatise on complacency' ALEX McDOWELL'Essential' DAVID EAGLEMAN'A rare and wondrous thing' STEPHEN FRYAs the tempo of change accelerates beyond anything our ancestors could have imagined, the ability to think clearly about what lies ahead has never been more important - yet we remain remarkably bad at it.So how might we think about the future with greater rigour?Nick Foster is one of very few people to have built a career considering this question, and in this book he's written an invaluable guide for the rest of us. From the Could of excitable, science fiction utopianism and the Should of data-driven, dogmatic certainty, to the Might of scenario planning and the Don't of fear-driven risk avoidance, Foster explores how humanity has grappled with the concept of the future throughout history, tracing the emergence of distinct schools of thought and exploring the virtues, blind spots and inevitable shortcomings of each.Could Should Might Don't resists making cocksure prophecies and bombastic predictions, instead encouraging us to create more balanced, detailed and truthful versions of the future, so that we might improve what we leave behind for those who might follow.

Murder at Roaringwater is the inside story of a young Frenchwoman, Sophie Toscan du Plantier. This is a notorious and unresolved murder, where the victim seemed to have a premonition of her own terrible end. For six years, Nick Foster has been piecing together the life and death of Sophie, who was violently killed outside her cottage in the remote West Cork countryside in 1996. He also developed an ongoing friendship with the Englishman long-suspected of her murder, Ian Bailey. This case is as fascinating as it is tragic. It follows Nick s dedicated investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Frenchwoman s murder and his quest to find her killer and understand how such a terrible crime could have happened. Bailey was recently found guilty of Sophie's murder 'in absentia' in a French courtroom.

An invaluable guide for how to think-and not to think-about the future, from one of the leading futurists of our time. You might not know the name Nick Foster, but after just a moment of googling you'll realize he's been guiding the missions of companies that have been shaping the world you live in. From Sony, Nokia, and Dyson to Google itself, where he was the head of design at Google X, Foster has been at the forefront of innovation for over twenty-five years, but his name might be unfamiliar because until this point, he's been hidden behind countless NDAs.Could Should Might Don't is Foster's public debut, the first time this much-sought-after designer is free to share his perspectives, explore how other people approach the future, and suggest how we can all improve our thinking about what might lie ahead. But this isn't a book filled with predictions and prophecies, and it makes no assertions about what the future will hold. It's a book that unpacks how we think about the future. Foster has identified Could, Should, Might, and Don't as the four primary mindsets we all adopt when thinking about what's over the horizon, but he doesn't advocate for any one of them. Instead, he explores how humanity has grappled with the concept of the future throughout history, tracing the emergence of distinct schools of thought and exploring the virtues, blind spots, and inevitable shortcomings of each. The book is, in some ways, about the history of the future and the history of the different futures that we have imagined, designed, or projected for ourselves. But most of all, Could Should Might Don't is a no-nonsense appeal to every one of us-whether we're busy creating future ideas or trying to understand them-to radically improve how we think about the future, so we can improve what we leave behind for those who will follow.

Why and How I Wrote This BookLike many of you I wanted to read the Bible from cover to cover. I did it on a yearly plan, reading so many verses each night. After the year was up I was done, a big accomplishment, right? There was one problem: I forgot what I had read. This was not the result I wanted. So I read it again, but this time I wrote the verses that were important to me on 3x5 cards. I had a total of approximately 50 cards. These verses became a part of me as I would read them over and over and became My Foundation of Life. They have helped me, but just as importantly have helped the person I''m dedicating the book to: Lenka. Tracy. It was her suggestion that I put them in a book so that they could help others as she had been helped by them. The verses you are about to read are from the New American Standard Bible and the King James versions The verses that I gave to Lenka weren''t in any particular order and were paraphrased. These verses helped me and Lenka. My hope is that they will help you too.. My faith is Catholic, but I was born a Lutheran and was raised Baptist. I comment and make observations on several of these verses These comments may or may not help you. It is my perspective. Yours may be different. The Bible is very important in my life. I hope it is important in your life too, but if not maybe it can become so.
