Since 2006, investigations have been carried out in the Quesna necropolis by the team of the EES Minufiyeh Archaeological Survey. This book covers the first element of work now completed, the investigations in the Ptolemaic-Roman cemetery. The volume includes the results of the preliminary magnetic survey, a general description of the site, and a main catalogue that presents information on each of the burials excavated and analysed (bioanthropological data, information relating to the graves, documentation of grave goods). This is followed by a synthesis of demographic data, evaluating the population both within the site at Quesna and the wider Egyptian and Mediterranean world. A specific chapter is dedicated to the description of the ceramic, mud, fired-brick and wooden coffins found. A catalogue of ceramic finds relating to the cemetery is also included.

Two-volume set in slipcase Over more than a century and a quarter of excavations the royal and administrative buildings in the city of Amarna have yielded the remains of many hundreds of statues that had been part of Akhenaten’s visionary plan. But fragmentation and dispersal have up until now made the results almost invisible. Only a relatively small number of the original statues have been widely known, even to experts. The present publication brings together all these traces of the city’s past to reveal the abundance, beauty, variety, and novelty of the statuary and to begin the process of reintegrating it in considerations of the temples and palaces of the city. The work is presented in two parts. The first volume presents extensive observations about the creation of the statuary, comprising chapters dealing with the range of materials and the methods of working them, a detailed explication of the novel creation of composite statuary, and an overview of the workshop buildings that have been identified so far at Amarna. In the second volume, the excavated fragments themselves, most of them previously unpublished, are catalogued in a series of chapters devoted to individual royal buildings. The original statues are envisioned and analysed for their contexts, resulting in new information about these buildings, the intentions and concerns behind them, and the evolution in those intentions.EES Research Reports 120

A century ago, Charles Leonard Woolley directed the first excavations at Amarna site M50.14–16, identifying it as a workshop for glass and faience. However, the archaeological record and its publication in The City of Akhenaten I were somewhat superficial. New excavations conducted by the Amarna Project in 2014 and 2017 yielded extensive evidence of glass-, faience-, stone-, and metalworking, reaffirming the site’s role as a workshop. These investigations also illuminated its domestic character, uncovering valuable data on houses and other structural remains. This volume presents a near-complete record of the site, offering a comprehensive archaeological and architectural evaluation alongside in-depth analyses of material culture, including archaeobotany, charcoal, animal bones, ceramics, and other artefacts. The individual chapters reconstruct the chaînes opératoires of various craft production activities. Additionally, the organisation of production and the concept of cross-craft interaction are explored, as the site is situated within the broader industrial network of Amarna. This volume furthermore provides an in-depth examination of the inhabitants' roles and daily lives, enriching our understanding of this significant site.EES Research Reports 121
