In recent years, the fixed point theory of Lipschitzian-type mappings has rapidly grown into an important field of study in both pure and applied mathematics. It has become one of the most essential tools in nonlinear functional analysis. This self-contained book provides the first systematic presentation of Lipschitzian-type mappings in metric and Banach spaces. The first chapter covers some basic properties of metric and Banach spaces. Geometric considerations of underlying spaces play a prominent role in developing and understanding the theory. The next two chapters provide background in terms of convexity, smoothness and geometric coefficients of Banach spaces including duality mappings and metric projection mappings. This is followed by results on existence of fixed points, approximation of fixed points by iterative methods and strong convergence theorems. The final chapter explores several applicable problems arising in related fields. This book can be used as a textbook and as a reference for graduate students, researchers and applied mathematicians working in nonlinear functional analysis, operator theory, approximations by iteration theory, convexity and related geometric topics, and best approximation theory.

Our book is devoted to the topological fixed point theory both for single-valued and multivalued mappings in locally convex spaces, including its application to boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations (inclusions) and to (multivalued) dynamical systems. It is the first monograph dealing with the topo- logical fixed point theory in non-metric spaces. Although the theoretical material was tendentially selected with respect to ap- plications, we wished to have a self-consistent text (see the scheme below). There- fore, we supplied three appendices concerning almost-periodic and derivo-periodic single-valued {multivalued) functions and (multivalued) fractals. The last topic which is quite new can be also regarded as a contribution to the fixed point theory in hyperspaces. Nevertheless, the reader is assumed to be at least partly famil- iar in some related sections with the notions like the Bochner integral, the Au- mann multivalued integral, the Arzela-Ascoli lemma, the Gronwall inequality, the Brouwer degree, the Leray-Schauder degree, the topological (covering) dimension, the elemens of homological algebra, ...Otherwise, one can use the recommended literature.Hence, in Chapter I, the topological and analytical background is built. Then, in Chapter II (and partly already in Chapter I), topological principles necessary for applications are developed, namely: the fixed point index theory (resp. the topological degree theory), the Lefschetz and the Nielsen theories both in absolute and relative cases, periodic point theorems, topological essentiality, continuation-type theorems.

Decomposable sets since T. R. Rockafellar in 1968 are one of basic notions in nonlinear analysis, especially in the theory of multifunctions. A subset K of measurable functions is called decomposable if (Q) for all and measurable A. This book attempts to show the present stage of "decomposable analysis" from the point of view of fixed point theory. The book is split into three parts, beginning with the background of functional analysis, proceeding to the theory of multifunctions and lastly, the decomposability property. Mathematicians and students working in functional, convex and nonlinear analysis, differential inclusions and optimal control should find this book of interest. A good background in fixed point theory is assumed as is a background in topology.

The notion of a ?xed point plays a crucial role in numerous branches of mat- maticsand its applications. Informationabout the existence of such pointsis often the crucial argument in solving a problem. In particular, topological methods of ?xed point theory have been an increasing focus of interest over the last century. These topological methods of ?xed point theory are divided, roughly speaking, into two types. The ?rst type includes such as the Banach Contraction Principle where the assumptions on the space can be very mild but a small change of the map can remove the ?xed point. The second type, on the other hand, such as the Brouwer and Lefschetz Fixed Point Theorems, give the existence of a ?xed point not only for a given map but also for any its deformations. This book is an exposition of a part of the topological ?xed and periodic point theory, of this second type, based on the notions of Lefschetz and Nielsen numbers. Since both notions are homotopyinvariants, the deformationis used as an essential method, and the assertions of theorems typically state the existence of ?xed or periodic points for every map of the whole homotopy class, we refer to them as homotopy methods of the topological ?xed and periodic point theory.

1. 1 Preface Many phenomena from physics, biology, chemistry and economics are modeled by di?erential equations with parameters. When a nonlinear equation is est- lished, its behavior/dynamics should be understood. In general, it is impossible to ?nd a complete dynamics of a nonlinear di?erential equation. Hence at least, either periodic or irregular/chaotic solutions are tried to be shown. So a pr- erty of a desired solution of a nonlinear equation is given as a parameterized boundary value problem. Consequently, the task is transformed to a solvability of an abstract nonlinear equation with parameters on a certain functional space. When a family of solutions of the abstract equation is known for some para- ters, the persistence or bifurcations of solutions from that family is studied as parameters are changing. There are several approaches to handle such nonl- ear bifurcation problems. One of them is a topological degree method, which is rather powerful in cases when nonlinearities are not enough smooth. The aim of this book is to present several original bifurcation results achieved by the author using the topological degree theory. The scope of the results is rather broad from showing periodic and chaotic behavior of non-smooth mechanical systems through the existence of traveling waves for ordinary di?erential eq- tions on in?nite lattices up to study periodic oscillations of undamped abstract waveequationsonHilbertspaceswithapplicationstononlinearbeamandstring partial di?erential equations. 1.

This is the first systematic and self-contained textbook on homotopy methods in the study of periodic points of a map. A modern exposition of the classical topological fixed-point theory with a complete set of all the necessary notions as well as new proofs of the Lefschetz-Hopf and Wecken theorems are included. Periodic points are studied through the use of Lefschetz numbers of iterations of a map and Nielsen-Jiang periodic numbers related to the Nielsen numbers of iterations of this map. Wecken theorem for periodic points is then discussed in the second half of the book and several results on the homotopy minimal periods are given as applications, e.g. a homotopy version of the A...arkovsky theorem, a dynamics of equivariant maps, and a relation to the topological entropy. Students and researchers in fixed point theory, dynamical systems, and algebraic topology will find this text invaluable.
