This book examines the role of faith-based organizations in managing international aid, providing services, defending human rights and protecting democracy. It argues that greater engagement with faith communities and organizations is needed, and questions traditional secularism that has underpinned development policy and practice in the North.
GERARD CLARKE is Senior Lecturer in Development Studies at the School of the Environment and Society, Swansea University, UK. He is the author of The Politics of NGOs in South-East Asia: Participation and Protest in the Philippines. MICHAEL JENNINGS is Lecturer in International Development and African Politics at the Centre for Development Studies, Swansea University, UK. His research interests focus on NGOs, civil society and development in East Africa, and on the history and politics of development in this region.
