This book highlights state-of-the-art qubit implementations in semiconductors and provides an extensive overview of this newly emerging field. Semiconductor nanostructures have huge potential as future quantum information devices as they provide various ways of qubit implementation (electron spin, electronic excitation) as well as a way to transfer quantum information from stationary qubits to flying qubits (photons). Fritz Henneberger currently occupies the Chair of Photonics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His research comprises semiconductor lasers, photonic materials and nanostructures, as well as elementary excitations and their dynamical interactions in semiconductors. He is a recipient of the Heinrich-Hertz Award of the Germany Physical Society. Henneberger has been a staff member of the Ioffe Institute, Leningrad, for several years. He has been a visiting professor at the Optical Science Center, University of Arizona, USA, and Kyoto University, Japan.
