Qumranica Minora I: Qumran Origins and Apocalypticism brings together the author’s much discussed articles on the so-called “Groningen Hypothesis” (an hypothesis about the origins of the Qumran Community in relation to the parent Essene movement and Palestinian apocalyptic movements), as well as a selection of his most important essays on Early Jewish and Qumran apocalypticism. The third part of the book consists of surveys of the history of research on the Dead Sea Scrolls. The volume includes English translations of essays that were originally written in Spanish and French.

Qumranica Minora II: Thematic Studies on the Dead Sea Scrolls brings together fourteen previously published studies of Florentino García Martínez on a variety of thematic topics from the Dead Sea Scrolls, including English translations of essays that were hitherto only available in French or Spanish. The studies range from essays on the interpretation of the biblical texts in the Scrolls, to more general studies on topics such as priestly functions in a community without temple, Messianism, magic, wisdom, sonship between the Old and the New Testament, and the “other” in the Dead Sea Scrolls or at Qumran.

This volume contains forty-eight essays, presented by friends, colleagues and students from many countries, in honour of Florentino García Martínez, director of the Groningen Qumran Institute, editor-in-chief of the Journal for the Study of Judaism, and professor in Leuven. The majority of the essays are in the areas of the honoree’s own scholarship and interests, including primarily Qumranica, but also many other fields of Second Temple Judaism, from late biblical texts and Septuagint up to early rabbinic writings. Florentino’s own polyglottism, evident from his bibliography, and his close relations with many scholars from Southern Europe, is reflected in the inclusion of a few French, Spanish and Italian articles in this volume.

Prophets of Old and The Day of the End argues for a historical and literary approach to apocalyptic. It tackles the problem of the origins of early Jewish apocalyptic by describing the correspondences and differences between some so-called protoapocalyptic and apocalyptic texts.The bulk of the book consists of exegetical studies of parts of Zechariah, Deuterozechariah and the Enochic Book of Watchers. Most of these studies offer new interpretations of the examined texts. The framework of the book presents fresh perspectives on apocalyptic. Some parts are more important to the scholar of post-exilic prophecy, and other parts to the student of the intertestamental literature. Yet, the overall approach and the conclusions bearing on the phenomenon of apocalyptic are of interest to scholars of both fields.

It contains newly edited Hebrew and Aramaic transcriptions and English translations of the non-biblical scrolls on facing pages, arranged by serial number from Cave 1 to Cave 11. In addition, it offers a summary of the contents of the biblical scrolls from Qumran. Each Q-number is provided with a heading which contains the essential information on the text and selected bibliographical references. Although unidentified and unclassified fragments have been omitted, and no snippets of manuscripts have been reproduced, this edition aims to be complete for the non-biblical scrolls. The work is primarily intended for classroom use and for use by specialists from other disciplines who need a reliable compendium to all the materials found. It will also be useful as a companion for those studying the original manuscripts using the microfiche or CD-ROM editions of the scrolls. This volume consists of nineteen essays, written by internationally renowned scholars such as George Brooke, John Collins, Heinz-Josef Fabry, Andre Lemaire, Julio Trebolle, Emanuel Tov, James VanderKam and others, presented to Emile Puech, palaeographer and Dead Sea Scrolls specialist, on the occasion of his 65th birthday. All contributions deal with aspects of the Dead Sea Scrolls, including fundamental essays on 4QMMT by Steudel, Kratz and Berthelot, and two papers on resurrection and afterlife. Other essays are concerned with textual criticism and the Hebrew Bible, the Astronomical Enoch, the Admonitions of Qahat, 4QInstruction, and Isaac in the Scrolls. This volume will be indispensable for scholars of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and of interest for scholars of Bible and Second Temple Judaism.

This volume is devoted to the receptions of and reflections on the story of Sodom and Gomorrah as told in Genesis 18 and 19. Two articles discuss intertextual reactions to the Sodom narrative within the Hebrew Bible. Five contributions examine readings and rewritings of the Sodom narrative in early Jewish, Christian and Islamic writings: Jubilees, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the New Testament (Revelation 11), Targumim and early Koran commentaries. Two articles focus on separate themes, the punishment of the Dead Sea and the prohibition on looking back. Finally, two articles that focus on Peter Damian and Proust's Sodome et Gomorrhe I describe the later reception of the sin of Sodom as homosexuality. A bibliography of recent works completes the volume.
