Debido a la época de su composición, a muchas obras de la literatura judía de los siglos II y I antes de Cristo y de los dos siguientes se les ha calificado de forma convencional como "literatura intertestamentaria"; es decir, entre el Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento. Son obras que reflejan el desarrollo del pensamiento judío al final del periodo del Segundo Templo, un mundo muy plural, complejo y apasionante, que supuso el final de una época que ya no volvería y el comienzo de otra marcada por el nacimiento del cristianismo y del rabinismo. El lector encontrará aquí una introducción de la máxima solvencia a los textos de Qumrán, a los escritos apócrifos del Antiguo Testamento y a la literatura rábinica, con la que acceder a textos que pueden no serle familiares, pero sí riquísimos como clave hermenéutica de numerosos pasajes neotestamentarios; al mismo tiempo, cada una de las partes tratadas le ofrece la posibilidad de iniciarse en la investigación autónoma de su correspondiente literatura.

This volume contains the papers presented to a symposium organized by the Theological Faculty of the University of Groningen on the occasion of the seventieth birthday of Adam S. van der Woude, former Professor of Old Testament and Early Judaism and former head of the Qumran Institute at the same Faculty. The essays, eight in English and four in German, explore (through case studies) the developments over the last few years in the different areas of study of the Old Testament and of Early Judaism, observe the new perspectives opened in these areas and map the directions in which the research will be moving in the third millennium. The volume also includes a German version of the public lecture on the significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls for the Study of Old Testament and of Early Judaism delivered in Dutch by Van der Woude during the symposium.

Qumranica Minora I: Qumran Origins and Apocalypticism brings together the author’s much discussed articles on the so-called “Groningen Hypothesis” (an hypothesis about the origins of the Qumran Community in relation to the parent Essene movement and Palestinian apocalyptic movements), as well as a selection of his most important essays on Early Jewish and Qumran apocalypticism. The third part of the book consists of surveys of the history of research on the Dead Sea Scrolls. The volume includes English translations of essays that were originally written in Spanish and French.

Qumranica Minora II: Thematic Studies on the Dead Sea Scrolls brings together fourteen previously published studies of Florentino García Martínez on a variety of thematic topics from the Dead Sea Scrolls, including English translations of essays that were hitherto only available in French or Spanish. The studies range from essays on the interpretation of the biblical texts in the Scrolls, to more general studies on topics such as priestly functions in a community without temple, Messianism, magic, wisdom, sonship between the Old and the New Testament, and the “other” in the Dead Sea Scrolls or at Qumran.

The present book brings together the contributions of the foremost specialists on the relationship of the New Testament and Rabbinic Literature. It contains the proceedings of a Symposium held at the K.U.Leuven in January 2006. The contributors, from different European countries as well as from Israel, present in detail the history of rabbinical scholarship by Christian scholars and deal with the main issues in the study of rabbinic materials. As could be expected, much attention is given to halakhic issues, but literary questions in Midrash, Targum and Mystical Literature are also dealt with. All contributions are in English, and the volume is completed with a very large “cumulative bibliography” which will enhance its usefulness.

In spite of the amount of literature on the relationship between the Dead Sea Scrolls and the New Testament, no consensus among the scholars has emerged as yet on how to explain both the similarities and the differences among the two corpora of religious writings. This volume contains a revised form of the contributions to an “experts meeting” held at the Catholic University of Leuven on December 2007 dedicated to explore the relationship among the two corpora and to understand both the commonalities and the differences between the two corpora from the perspective of the common ground from which both corpora have developed: the Hebrew Bible.
