The 2024 U.S. presidential election will hinge on two very different basic approaches to domestic and foreign policy, two very different sets of underlying premises, and two very different types of presidential and high-level official personalities at the administrative helm putting them into effect. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is campaigning on a nationalist conservative preservation platform. It is a direct antithesis of the Biden-Harris- Waltz progressive transformation agenda. This volume comparatively analyzes the choices of presidential doctrine that are likely to define the principles, beliefs, and nature of U.S. foreign policy in the years following the election of either candidate and their vastly different agendas."Renshon, Suedfeld, and contributors do an excellent job of analyzing the different foreign policy assumptions and implications associated with the Trump and Biden presidencies at a time of deepening international crisis."Richard Ned Lebow, King's College London"I can think of no better book to objectively compare and contrast President Biden's foreign policy with that of the Trump administration. A very useful and fair-minded collection of essays containing a range of perspectives."Colin Dueck, George Mason University

In an era of rapid geopolitical shifts and economic uncertainty, this book takes an academic, professional, and unorthodox approach to analyzing the intricate feedback loops between politics, economics, and security. Against the backdrop of pressing global challenges, this book examines how Donald Trump’s return to the White House could reshape the world order, disrupt existing alliances, and redefine America’s role on the international stage.Trump’s unconventional leadership style has long been a subject of debate, but what are its deeper implications for long-term global development? Can history and geopolitics provide foresight before crises escalate? What conditions must be met to ensure sustainable economic, social, and political stability? And how do security concerns intertwine with technological, environmental, and demographic transformations?Presenting evidence-based yet necessarily controversial perspectives, this book encourages critical reflection on the evolving world landscape. It is an essential read for scholars, policymakers, and anyone seeking to comprehend the complexities of modern geopolitics and the far-reaching consequences of America’s pursuit of global hegemony.

This book examines the far-reaching impact of charismatic leadership on voter behavior, media influence, and affective polarization. In this context, emotional reactions to opposing parties fuel societal division. Trump’s political messaging consistently portrays former President Joe Biden as America’s scapegoat, deepening partisan conflicts and shaping public perception. As President Donald Trump begins his second term, the U.S. is facing deep political division, economic uncertainty, and institutional distrust. His administration’s sweeping policy shifts, including aggressive tariffs, corporate deregulation, and strict immigration measures, have triggered economic disruptions and global instability. Meanwhile, ideological and emotional polarization deepens, driven by personality politics and the rise of "strong leader" authoritarianism. This volume examines the American presidency, offering insights from the past and a prescient look at the potential ramifications of "Trump 2.0" on the domestic political landscape and the global stage. This book will appeal to scholars, policymakers, and anyone interested in the future of U.S. politics as it emphasizes the importance of understanding and addressing polarization to promote a more inclusive and effective political dialogue.

This book analyzes Donald Trump's three electoral campaigns - 2016, 2020, and 2024 - and exposes the hidden networks of power that shape modern campaigns and politics. The author maps the influence of financial oligarchs, deep state agencies, tech moguls, and celebrity elites, revealing how populist narratives intersect with corporate lobbying, military and intelligence continuity, and fragmented mass media.Blending cultural and structural perspectives, the book explains how Trump, often seen as an "outsider," was able to simultaneously serve entrenched interests. Each chapter examines critical turning points, from early endorsements and mainstream coverage to digital echo chambers, polling failures, and escalating conspiracy theories, culminating in Trump's victory in 2024.The book concludes with an assessment of democracy's resilience in an age of misinformation, economic inequality, and strategic realignment. It will appeal to scholars, students, and researchers in political science and related fields, as well as policymakers and the general public interested in better understanding the shifting power structures that underpin American democracy.

This volume reflects nearly two years of Zoom interviews conducted leading up to and following the 2020 US election. In contrast to the abundance of literature on Trump and the far-right/left, the stories within highlight the struggle of the anti-Trump conservative voters who consider themselves caught between two increasingly polarized parties. Left behind by their party, and unwilling or unable to join the opposition, these individuals find themselves abandoned by the system dictated by a series of choiceless decisions. Grounded in anthropological and political theory and field methods, the interviews housed within this book reflect the advantages of the qualitative and holistic approach ethnography brings to the understanding of political identity. The book begins with a brief but comprehensive overview on the history of the Republican Party from Eisenhower to Trump. The following chapter then unpacks the complex and subjective label of ‘American conservatism’. Chapter Three ends with a breakdown of the dominant principles within conservative thought identified in the literature cited and each interview. The next few chapters analyze the party exits through a combination of Albert Hirschman’s (1970) Exit, Voice, Loyalty model and social identity theory. The final chapter of this book presents the reader with an opportunity to consider their positionality as it impacts the future of American democracy.Providing an interdisciplinary analysis of political identity in the American electorate, this volume will be of interest to researchers and students of US politics, electoral politics, identity politics, political parties, public anthropology, and social science in general.

This book sheds light on American exceptionalism—the belief that the United States is unique and superior and is destined to lead the world. It argues that this idea is not exclusive to the United States, as many other nations, including China, India, France, and Germany, have also claimed uniqueness based on their history, culture, or power. Such claims often distort reality, ignore comparisons, and justify questionable actions. The book examines the roots of American exceptionalism in doctrines such as Manifest Destiny and the Doctrine of Discovery. It traces the impact of these doctrines on Native Americans, slavery, and U.S. identity. The book then follows America’s rise from isolationism to global dominance, examining its triumphs and contradictions as well as the challenges of the 21st century.By providing a critical, historical, and global perspective on this powerful idea—including its origins, evolution, and limits—this book will appeal to scholars, students, and anyone interested in U.S. history, global politics, and the myths that shape nations.
