In his novels, the Austrian writer Heimito von Doderer attempts to show how an insight into the way everything in the world is connected can still be maintained together with the assumption that everything is open to narration. This international collection of papers on all of Doderer's important works reveal him as an author who attempts to given independent and original specific questions of the modern age, such as the subject's lack of orientation, society's entaglement and the loss of link with the past.
