This book tells the history of the Vikings who were first acknowledged when they attacked the monastery on the island of Lindisfarne in England in 793. The Vikings were however also skilled traders and artisans. On the British Isles and in northern France the Vikings colonized large areas and in the east they were a unifying force in the formation of Russia. They also travelled to North America almost 500 years before Columbus. The book is written by alexandra Sanmark and Fredrik Sundman. Alexandra is an archaeologist and historian and has taught Vikings Studies e.g. at the University of Uppsala. Fredrik is both a journalist and photographer.
