Där Kvillebäcken på Hisingen mynnar ut i Göta älv låg en gång en enslig och lantligt belägen färjeplats, varifrån man tog sig över till Göteborg på den södra älvstranden. Här fanns också ett värdshus med dåligt rykte och riklig tillgång på brännvin. Men kring sekelskiftet 1900 började industrier och mindre företag etableras i området. Med detta följde nya bostäder, och Kvillebäcken förvandlades stegvis från en lantlig utkant till en livlig arbetarstadsdel i Göteborg. Följ med på en faktarik historisk rundtur i Kville under 1900-talets första hälft, där vi möter nykterhetskämpar, poliser, butiksinnehavare, arbetare, brevbärare, skomakare, Kal & Ada, unga fotbollsspelare och andra gestalter från tiden. Med hjälp av fotografier, kartor, arkivmaterial och personliga minnen träder ett gammalt Kville fram.

-- Hedersomnämnande i samband med utmärkelsen "Årets Göteborgsbok 2023" -- Lundby på Hisingen i Göteborg genomgår från mitten av 1800-talet till början av 1900-talet en dramatisk förändring. På norra älvstranden etableras flera stora båtvarv vilket på ett avgörande sätt bidrar till att Lundby förvandlas från ett jordbrukssamhälle till en industristadsdel. Befolkningen ökar kraftigt – medan Lundby församling 1860 har omkring 1 500 invånare har antalet sextio år senare vuxit till drygt 20 000. När Lundby Hembygdsförening bildades i slutet av 1980-talet startade ett arbete med att samla in och dokumentera äldre fotografier. Resultatet idag är en omfattande bildsamling. Denna bok kom till som en del av en grundlig inventering av Lundby-fotografier från 1860-talet fram till omkring år 1930. Föreningens samling av foton har för detta ändamål kompletterats med bilder från andra källor. Förutom bokens bildmaterial, som omfattar omkring 240 fotografier och 45 kartor, återges ett antal barndomsminnen nedtecknade av Lundbybor, varav flera var varvsarbetare.

Tekniska framsteg inom fotokonsten gör att polisen under 1860-talet får ett nytt hjälpmedel vid sitt spaningsarbete – fotografiska porträtt av brottslingar. Göteborgspolisens tidigaste porträtt finns samlade i ett ”Förbrytaralbum”. Författaren har närmare studerat ett hundratal av de ansikten som befolkar detta album och försett var och en av dem med en kortare biografi.
