During the 1980s a huge variety of fire engines were built for service around the United Kingdom. These fire engines were not only in local authority services but also industrial, airport and military fire services across the UK. The vehicles were built on a wide range of British vehicle chassis, such as Bedford and Dennis, or chassis from other European manufacturers, such as MAN and Volvo. The bodies were built by British-based coachbuilders, many of which are no longer trading today, such as Carmichael and HCB-Angus. Other companies such as Land Rover built many smaller vehicles. This book covers the wide variety of fire engines built in and available to fire services in the 1980s: light/small pumping vehicles; pumping vehicles; aerial appliances; rescue vehicles; special vehicles; support vehicles; industrial vehicles; airfield, airport and military vehicles.Covering all areas of the UK - England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey - this book is a portfolio of their fire appliance vehicles in the 1980s. This lavishly illustrated volume is a must for anyone with an interest in the history of emergency vehicles and of road transport in general in the UK.
