MIGUEL SANTOS NEVES is Head of the Asia Programme at the Institute of International and Strategic Studies in Lisbon, Portugal. In 1998 he became a member of the Asia-Europe Young Leaders Symposium. - BRIAN BRIDGES is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics and Sociology at Lingnan College, Hong Kong. He worked for the BBC Monitoring Service as a researcher at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (1982-1989). His books include Japan and Korea in the 1990s (1993) and Europe and the Challenge of the Asia Pacific (1999).
