Works from the past two decades and a new series from the Swedish master of the oneiric and the unsettlingMamma Andersson (born 1962) ranks as one of the most important painters of her generation. The Swedish artist is an eminent interpreter of the unique language of painting. With a sharp sense of mood, color and materiality, she has developed a personal take on the classical genres of painting: still lifes, interiors and landscapes are at the crux of her work. Her signature aesthetic is the result of repeated applications and overpainting. Oil on canvas is covered in spray paint, paint is dragged in thin bands across the surface, producing a material fullness and variety. This catalog accompanies the Louisiana’s exhibition Mamma Andersson: Humdrum Days, and contains contributions from the author Karl Ove Knausgård, the playwright Magnus Florin and the art writer and poet Barry Schwabsky, in addition to a conversation between Mamma Andersson and the exhibition’s curator, Marie Laurberg.

The third volume of the series 'The Architect’s Studio' focuses on Tatiana Bilbao’s exploration of the landscape: from the territory of Mexico over the urban to the interior landscape of the individual building, always taking social conditions into account. This is also demonstrated in Bilbao’s various projects such as the architectural design of a pilgrimage route, a botanical garden in the Mexican main trading center Culiacán, and not least the Light of Line, which is intended to enable women in particular to move more safely in remote districts of the city. In constant collaboration with experts from various disciplines, Bilbao wants to create architecture that has a direct impact on its users. The publication also provides insights into the Mexican cultural, artistic, and building traditions that Bilbao incorporates into her projects. The volume addresses the question of the use of collages in architecture and embeds Bilbao’s work in a contemporary as well as a historical context.TATIANA BILBAO, born in 1972, is a Mexican architect. She developed the architectural project along the Ruta del Peregrino and is a recipient of the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture by the LOCUS Foundation, Cité de l’Architecture in Paris, and the patronage of UNESCO.

The first overview in a decade on Arke's poetical explorations of dual ethnicityCentral to the multimedia oeuvre of Pia Arke (1958–2007) was the artist’s dual ethnicity in Greenland and Denmark, excavated in video works, collaged maps and landscape photographs that addressed themes of exploration, the complexities of ethnicity. Famed for her film Arctic Hysteria, Arke died of cancer at 48, and her work has only gained recognition over the past decade. With reproductions and essays, this volume introduces her to a wider audience.Kim Leine discusses themes of mortality; Darren Almond charts Arke’s depictions of the landscapes of Greenland; Minik Rosing looks at spirituality in relation to Greenland; Laura Smith examines “Arctic hysteria”; Erik Steffensen recounts the artist’s early years; Stefan Jonsson gives a biographical portrait; Erik Gant delves into the relationship between art and reality; Jessie Kleemann is interviewed about Arke’s legacy; and the exhibition’s curator, Anders Kold, explores Arke’s motifs of body and map.

Consumer critique meets absurdist humor in the “socal surrealist” works of the installation and video artistBorn in Argentina, raised in Israel and now living in New York, Mika Rottenberg (born 1976) explores connections between people in the global consumer society through film, installation, sculpture and drawing. In Rottenberg’s work, people—most often women—and machines are engaged in incessant production. Rhythmic editing and sound design whirl us into labyrinthine processes in which goods are manufactured and conveyed in one big, surreal hamster wheel. Her scenarios are funhouse versions of our own world; like science labs investigating naturally occurring phenomena, the artist’s installations can be seen as designs and models testing social concepts and abstract systems. Rottenberg herself calls her art “social surrealism.”This catalog, designed by the internationally acclaimed Dutch designer Irma Boom, presents some of Rottenberg’s most trenchant work, as well as an interview with the artist by Anders Kold, curator at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, and an introduction by William Pym.

A handsome, affordable introduction to the modernist polymath who charted the rhythms of color across textiles, illustration, painting and moreSonia Delaunay was a true pioneer of modernist abstraction; breaking with the figurative vocabulary that subordinated color to subject matter, she placed dynamic color interaction at the core of her vision, whether expressed through painting, book illustration or costume and textile design. Drawing inspiration from both traditional Russian crafts and the modern frenetic metropolis, Delaunay’s work reflects the drastic changes ushered in by industrialization. Through her polyvalent practice, Delaunay helped construct the new modern woman that she herself embodied: equal parts avant-gardist, creative entrepreneur and businesswoman. This richly illustrated catalog showcases the range of Delaunay’s work as it unfolded over 60 years, from abstract paintings and works on paper to textile design, garments, fashion photography, books and carpets—even a brightly colored sports car.Born in Odessa, Ukraine, Sonia Delaunay (1885–1979) migrated to Paris in 1906 and became a key figure in the city’s avant-garde scene. During these early years, her paintings underwent a formal shift influenced by the vivid colors of Fauvism. She soon met her husband, fellow artist Robert Delaunay, and the couple pioneered a fusion of Cubism and Neo-Impressionism that they termed Simultanism, which denotes abstract painting that uses color in a manner comparable to the use of sound and rhythm in music. In 1964, Delaunay became the first living woman artist to have a retrospective at the Louvre.

The first visual overview of the acclaimed collective working at the intersection of architecture, science and politicsFounded by Eyal Weizman at Goldsmiths College in London in 2010, the research agency Forensic Architecture has investigated dozens of incidents of state violence—military intervention, environmental destruction, border violence and police murder. Working at the intersection of architecture, law, journalism, human rights and ecology, Forensic Architecture researches conflicts and crimes around the world, using architectural tools and methods to conduct spatial and architectural analyses of particular incidents. They do not design new buildings, but like other architects, they examine and model spaces, with the aim of shedding light on events. This catalog focuses on the witnesses at the core of Forensic Architecture’s work. As Weizman explains: “very often, because ‘forensic’ is part of our name, there is a certain amount of misunderstanding, as if the evidentiary work that we are doing … constitutes an alternative to, and sometimes even a substitute for, the human voice of the witness. I believe rather that our work keeps the relationship between evidence and testimony in a state of productive tension." Featuring texts by Weizman, Christina Varvia and a roundtable discussion between members of the current team, this richly illustrated book opens a window into Forensic Architecture’s working methods and projects.

Key works and writings from six decades of pioneering image-text works in celebration of ErosFor six decades, Dorothy Iannone (born 1933) has developed an iconography that is at once epic and intensely personal. Often her works bear a close resemblance to graphic novels: hand-lettered texts and images work together to tell the story, bluntly and with humor in both verbal and visual details. Liberated sexuality and romantic relations are central themes. Iannone’s erotic scenes stem from historical representations of ecstatic unions across times, cultures and religions, with references to antiquity, Greek vases, Egyptian art, Roman and Pompeian murals, the Kama Sutra and Tantra, Icelandic sagas, Christianity, Buddhism, world literature and film history. Serving as muses, the artist’s lovers appear in her narratives: several works feature the artist Dieter Roth, who was Iannone’s partner from 1967 to 1974.This richly illustrated catalog presents some of the artist’s most important work, alongside an introduction by Italian art historian Barbara Casavechia, the artist’s own writing and an illustrated biography.

“A great and unlikely success story, Da Corte creates funny and therapeutic works in the hope of easing the ‘exquisite pain’ of modern life.” –New York TimesThis comprehensive monograph celebrates the acclaimed Philadelphia-based installation artist Alex Da Corte (born 1980), famed for his show-stopping 2021 Roof Garden Commission for the Met, As Long as the Sun Lasts. Da Corte’s Day-Glo works are distinctly rooted in traditional American arts and culture—tellingly, as a teenager he planned to become an animator for Disney—and the artist himself often appears in his films, impersonating iconic figures such as Popeye, the Statue of Liberty, Fred Rogers or Eminem. Throughout, the pop flavor of Da Corte’s aesthetics is mixed with a satirical existentialism: his works often combine sadness and effortless play, connecting our sense of self with consumer culture—from the films we watch to the objects we buy, give and throw away.Published for a major retrospective at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, and documenting all of his major works to date, Alex Da Corte: Mr. Remember matches the artist’s high-production, ultra-chromatic sensibility in its gorgeous production, with a three-color cloth binding, silver foil on the cover, a paperback volume sewn into the book and an abundance of riotous color throughout, with more than 100 pages of installation views from previous exhibitions.

A meditation on the current state of creativity, featuring missives from Anne Boyer, Olga Ravn and Audre LordeThis volume delves into that ineluctable, daunting question: what does creativity mean today? The development of artificial intelligence is once again causing us to consider what it is precisely that renders humanity unique. Historically, one of the answers has been creativity, but many argue that the contemporary age does not provide optimal conditions for human creativity to flourish. The Irreplaceable Human sifts through those thorny conditions, calling upon curators, academics and writers to sound off on the evolving role of creativity through their specific topics of interest, from creativity and childhood to the newest research on different types of creativity to creativity in regards to AI. Following the related exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, this catalog compiles a commanding list of contributors, including American Pulitzer Prize–winner Anne Boyer and Danish novelist Olga Ravn, and features additional texts by Audre Lorde and Thomas Mann.

Exploring Gertsch’s photorealistic process from paintings to woodblock printsPublished with Deichtorhallen Hamburg. For his photorealistic approach, Swiss artist Franz Gertsch (1930–2022) projected slides onto a large canvas, painting over the image to create a slightly mysterious replica. Later in his career, he took this process a step further by turning his photographic references into woodcuts, a painstaking task that produced breathtakingly lifelike results.

Influenced by Byzantine art, Fauvism and German Expressionism, Jawlensky explored color, religious iconography and portraiture in his masterful serial paintingsRussian German painter Alexej Jawlensky (1864–1941) found his own artistic voice late in life. He was part of the revitalization of painting in the early 20th century, developing his Expressionist style through exchanges with the Fauves in Paris and his peers in Germany, including friends in and around Der Blaue Reiter. Until arthritis ended his ability to paint, Jawlensky explored color, religious iconography and portraiture in his masterful serial paintings. HIs last series of works, Meditations, comprises more than 1,000 paintings: modest in format, yet sensational. These paintings, which he described as "prayers in color," became an artistic redemption for Jawlensky, who throughout his life sought to connect his spiritual reflections with his painting. Featuring a clothbound spine, this small, slender and appealing volume features essays on Jawlensky's unique artistic projects, as well as an encyclopedia of his life and work.

A sweeping retrospective for radical Pop artist Marisol, an enigmatic and overlooked figure of the 1960sMarisol (1930–2016) was one of the most radical and visionary artists of her generation. Combining found objects, plaster casts of her own body, and a singular blend of Pop and folk art, she created large tableaux that were by turns unsettling and humorous, colorful and dark. Her works posed sharp existential questions and made powerful statements on entrenched gender roles and equality. A close friend of Andy Warhol and a fixture in his early experimental films, Marisol enjoyed critical acclaim in the United States during the 1960s. In the following decade, she turned away from Pop toward more overtly political art, challenging the public and critics alike. Undeterred by changing tastes, she pursued an uncompromising practice across sculpture, drawing, printmaking and photography. This book accompanies the first major European presentation of Marisol's work, reclaiming her position as a forgotten classic through a swath of pieces spanning her career. Essays explore her place among female Pop artists, the gendered readings of her sculptures and the remarkable breadth of her creative vision.
