Boken beskriver på ett levande och realistiskt sätt alla de känslor som väcks hos eleverna, i den besvärliga processen att byta klassföreståndare.... Språket är på sina ställen något grovt, men helhetsintrycket är att språket flyter och berättelsen är lätt att följa. Boken är indelad i kapitel med ett fåtal svartvita illustrationer. På nära håll får vi följa tonåringen Rasmus frustration och destruktiva känslor som drabbar honom när favoritläraren Kristian berättar att han ska flytta till Norge. När klassen får en ny lärare, 27-åriga Nadja, väcks helt andra känslor. Rasmus blir blixtförälskad och helt betagen. Men en dag får han veta något om henne som förändrar allt. Boken är tunn (36 sidor), lättläst med korta meningar och överskådlig text. Utmärkt att rekommendera även till den som inte läser så många böcker. Jag gillar verkligen att få ta del av Rasmus innersta och sårbara känslor och tankar, utifrån hans perspektiv. Precis så omtumlande och turbulent som det är i tonåren, stor igenkänning. Så fint att läsa om lärarens betydelse för ungdomarna. Kristian är närvarande och en vuxen som bekräftar, bryr sig, lyssnar och hjälper till. En problemlösare, som skrattar och vill att eleverna ska trivas. En vuxen som tycker ungdomarnas åsikter är viktiga och uppmuntrar dem att komma med egna idéer. En människa som man byggt upp förtroende och tillit till. Så mycket mer än en lärare. Han är för schysst för att man ska kunna hata honom. Det går bara inte. Målgruppen är ca 12-15 år, men jag rekommenderar boken även till vuxna och pedagoger, i syfte att sätta den i händerna på den ungdom som ni tror känner igen sig och kan identifiera sig med Rasmus. This volume brings together work from leading researchers in the fields of developmental disorders of binocular vision, strabismus, and both infantile and acquired forms of nystagmus. It contains four sections. The first section, Basic Concepts of Stable Vision and Gaze, deals with psychophysical aspects of infantile forms of nystagmus and the relative contributions of extraocular proprioception and efference (corollary discharge). It also contains an accessible review of current notions of spatial and temporal visual functions and spatial constancy in infantile nystagmus syndrome and latent nystagmus. The second section, New Models and Techniques for Studying Gaze Stability, reviews animal and development models for strabismus, amblyopia, and nystagmus. It also contains novel optical methods for managing the visual consequences of nystagmus and a study of the potential ill effects of video displays on children's response to near viewing. The third section, New Therapies for Congenital Nystagmus, presents basic genetic studies and clinical trials of drug and surgical treatment of those patients with infantile forms of nystagmus. This book of fifteen essays is presented in honor of one of the premier historians of medieval philosophy, Armand Maurer of the Pontifical Institute for Mediaeval Studies and the University of Toronto. The authors, internationally recognized scholars in the field of medieval philosophy and theology, are friends, colleagues, and students of Fr. Maurer. They are united in a common love of medieval thought and a common appreciation of philosophizing through the study of the history of philosophy. Their interests and methodologies, however, are diverse, and cover a range from Justin Marytr, who died during the reign of Marcus Aurelius, to Bartholomew Mastrius, a contemporary of Descartes.The contributions are arranged chronologically, beginning with John Rist's essay on Christian philosophy during the patristic era. Richard Taylor demonstrates the importance of Arabic philosophical thought for the Latin West during the scholastic era, which began in the thirteenth century. R. Whitenton builds an interdisciplinary approach to ancient characters, utilizing cognitive science, Greek stock characters, ancient rhetoric, and modern literary theory. He then turns his attention to the characterization of Nicodemus, where he argues that Nicodemus would likely be understood initially as a dissembling character, only to depart from that characterization later in the narrative, suggesting a journey toward Johannine faith. Whitenton presents a compelling argument: many in an ancient audience would construe Nicodemus in ways that suggest his development from doubt and suspicion to commitment and devotion.

The collection was admired in antiquity and has recently been attracting renewed scholarly attention. Yet to date there has been no modern English translation of Memorable Doings and Sayings. This work is now added to the Loeb Classical Library, in two volumes, a freshly edited Latin text facing D. R. Shackleton Bailey’s pleasing and authoritative translation. Valerius arranges his instructive examples in short chapters, each focused on a particular virtue, vice, religious practice, or traditional custom—including Omens, Dreams, Anger, Cruelty, Bravery, Fidelity, Gratitude, Friendship, Parental Love. The moral undercurrent of this collection is readily apparent. But Valerius tells us that the book’s purpose is simply practical: he decided to select worthwhile material from famous writers so that people looking for illustrative examples might be spared the trouble of research. Whatever the author’s intention, his book is an interesting source of information on Roman attitudes toward religion and moral values in the first century.
