Voted as the greatest children's book of all time in BBC Culture poll. One night Max puts on his wolf suit and makes mischief of one kind and another, so his mother calls him 'Wild Thing' and sends him to bed without his supper. That night a forest begins to grow in Max's room and an ocean rushes by with a boat to take Max to the place where the wild things are. Max tames the wild things and crowns himself as their king, and then the wild rumpus begins! But when Max has sent the monsters to bed, and everything is quiet, he starts to feel lonely and realises it is time to sail home to the place where someone loves him best of all.

    Köp den till dig själv, eller köp den till ett barn. Where the Wild Things Are är en klassisk bilderbok som sålt över 19 miljoner exemplar sedan första utgåvan 1963. "Where the Wild Things Are" har blivit tolkad från psykologiska och kolonialistiska perspektiv. I grund och botten är det om barns förmåga att frigöra sig själv in till fantasins värld, men samtidigt bemästra känslor som tristess, frustration och rädsla; samtidigt som de har en tydlig uppfattning om verkligheten.

Övrig information

Maurice Sendak was born in Brooklyn, New York. He began by illustrating other authors' books for children, but the first book that he both wrote and illustrated was Kenny's Window, published in 1956. In his lifetime, he illustrated over 80 books, and received many awards, including the 1964 Caldecott Medal for Where the Wild Things Are. In 1970 he was the first American to win the Hans Christian Andersen Illustrator's Medal. He passed away in May 2012.
