JOHN BARBER is Fellow and Vice-Provost of King's College, Cambridge, Lecturer in Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge. His books include Soviet Historians in Crisis, 1928-1932, and The Soviet Home Front, 1941-5: a Social and Economic History of the USSR in World War II (with Mark Harrison). MARK HARRISON is Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick,.
