Because of You

On August 5, 2021, at 95-year-old Tony Bennett took the stage at Radio City for the very last time. An icon performing for a sold-out crowd, with a network deal airing the show and Lady Gaga by his side as he moved from hit to hit seamlessly despite years of dementia taking its toll. To stage right, behind the curtain, stood Tony Bennett's oldest son, Danny, the architect of this historic night. Forty-two years earlier, broke with the IRS chasing him, out of work, and addicted to cocaine Tony made a call to his 25-year-old son that would change the course of both of their lives.Tony Bennett never received the father of the year award. When his children were young he was rarely around and when he was, his late nights playing music and bringing famous friends over into the early hours, caused chaos in the house. He did find ways to connect though, showing up in small towns where Danny's band was performing at a bar. There was love there, but perhaps more so, there was acceptance. Danny knew his father was a legend and he respected his gifts as an artist. So, when Tony found himself battling addiction and out of work it was Danny he trusted to help. Family coming through to hold one another up.With candid storytelling and straight talk on business, Saving Tony, is as much a story of how a father and son rebuilt their relationship as it is a business lesson on reinvention. This is a book that offers encouragement to take risks, to embrace change and to see the best in those closest to us, all through the lens of an American legend.
